Beginners winter course

The beginners course will take you through the fundamental skills needed to move safely in the UK mountains in winter conditions. This includes basis winter skills such as ice axe arrest and how to use an ice axe and crampons. You may well need to ascend gullies and open faces using just your boots, an ice axe and crampons.

No winter experience is required but a good level of fitness and some experience of summer mountain walking.

  • Winter equipment and its uses
  • safety on steep groud
  • Crampons and Ice Axes
  • Self Arrest
  • Avalanche awareness
  • Navigation
  • Emergency snow shelters
  • Grade 1& 2 winter routes
